Position Summary

The IT SQL Server DBA will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical SQL Server databases, to ensure the availability and consistent performance of our corporate applications. This is a "hands-on" position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The IT SQL Server DBA will be responsible for the sustainment of all Microsoft SQL databases, ensuring their operational readiness including security, health and performance.

Essential Duties and Tasks

  • Ensuring that new database code meets company standards for reliability and performance
  • Design indexes for existing applications, choosing when to add or remove indexes
  • Troubleshoot queries and assist developers on how to improve the performance
  • Advise developers on the most efficient database designs (tables, datatypes, stored procedures, functions, etc.)
  • Capable of writing and improving SQL queries
  • Designing tables and picking datatypes
  • Using SQL Profiler traces and other tools to find the most frequently run queries
  • Utilize industry standard tools to answer questions about index usage
  • On-call troubleshooting for SQL Server service outages
  • Administer and maintain replication
  • Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL
  • Creating/managing backups, restores and recovery models

Qualifications, Education and Experience

  • 3+ years MS SQL Server Administration experience
  • Must be capable of working independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and cross culturally
  • Proven problem-solving skills from problem assessment to solution selection; ability to identify alternatives and make contingency plans
  • Excellent time management, planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments simultaneously
  • Advanced organizational problem solving, consensus building and conflict resolution skills
  • Experience working with Windows server, including Active Directory
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
