General Position Description:

The Extrusion Press Operator controls and monitors the inline printing production and quality of his or her designated line(s). Oversees the quality, house-keeping, and safety of the designated inline presses. Maintains clear communication with all Plant Departments in an effort to produce quality printed film.

Primary Duties:

  • Set proper print and registration per press run docket.
  • Ensures proper cylinders, plates, and gears are installed correctly per job.
  • Pre-check press plates to ensure consistent with press run docket and ultimately master print sample.
  • Prepare printed film samples during job startup and on each consecutive film roll.
  • Routinely compares instantaneous print quality versus approved master print sample (including running color matches via X-rite).
  • Fill out appropriate paperwork relating to print quality and press change-overs.
  • Housekeeping of all press components including plates, pans, or any ink spills.
  • Constantly evaluating print quality including print registration, chatter, skip-out, contaminated ink, etc. throughout a press roll.
  • Prepares for and performs press changeovers efficiently while minimizing film scrap and/or raw material waste.
  • Work effectively with neighboring plant departments in a team environment to develop multi-functional solutions.
  • Maintain good house-keeping practices throughout the Extrusion inline press areas particularly on the operator's designated lines.
  • Perform job duties accurately so that other personnel and departments, and ultimately customers, receive correct information and/or product.
  • Adhere to Trinity Packaging safety policies and production procedures as included in the employee handbook to ensure safety for self and fellow employees and to ensure behavior is appropriate in the workplace.
  • Maintain a customer focused perspective in all activities initiated to ensure that customer needs are successfully met.
  • May be assigned other duties plant wide as time allows.


The Extrusion Press Operator works under Extrusion Management, and is accountable to perform duties in a timely and effective manner. Failure to perform duties appropriately may result in unsatisfactory film quality and ultimately high scrap rates. Errors may cause downtime in production and potential frustration to production departments. This in turn may affect the timeliness of delivering the end product to the customers. Routine decisions can be made without clearing them through the Supervisor; however, when there is a question about product quality and or substitutions, it must be cleared with a Supervisor.

 The Extrusion Press Operator's achievements will be evaluated according to the following:

Initiate continuous improvement and problem solving efforts.

Problem Resolution: Apply ideas, concepts, knowledge and resources, to develop solutions and approaches to internal and external customer issues and problems in an effective and timely manner.

Productivity and Quality: Execute all duties in the appropriate amount (volume), time, level of detail, and degree of accuracy, to meet internal and external customer requirements and needs.

  • Press and/or factory operator experience preferred
  • Computer skills required
  • Excellent communication, organizational and multi-tasking skills to communicate and coordinate effectively with internal personnel
  • Ability to read, comprehend and write correspondence, and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers or fellow employees
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions and to deal with problems involving a few variables in standardized situations.
  • Work in a manufacturing plant utilizing computers, dollies, forklift, hand tools, safety knives, packaging equipment, pallet jacks, and standard safety equipment
  • Utilize resource materials including production schedule and standardized forms/paperwork
  • Vision capabilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
