Position Summary

To work proactively to design, control and analyze experiments to evaluate changes to current products and developing products. To support, and sometimes lead, product commercialization projects of new product opportunities or modifications to existing products.

Familiarity with a variety of the field's concepts, practices and procedures.  Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.  Performs a variety of complicated tasks.   Some degree of creativity and latitude is expected.  Can resolve most technical problems independently.

  • Define the direction we take to make money and grow the business.
  • Commitment, awareness and involvement pertaining to ISO (policy, standards, procedures, etc.) and food safety practices (GMPs, procedures, etc.) are requirements of all employees.
  • Support development and execution of growth programs
  • Support new product development project justification and launch process by collaborating with sales, manufacturing, supply chain, product management, marketing communications and ProAmpac leadership to drive externally-focused innovation.
  • Design, control and analyze experiments to evaluate changes to current products caused by changes to materials, processes and procedures and ensure that the results are documented and published.
  • Work closely with Sales, Manufacturing, Customers and Material Sourcing to support product innovation and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Support Quality Assurance and Sales in corrective actions, including travel to customer locations to investigate complaints and problems when needed.
  • Evaluate and approve all changes to process documents.
  • Evaluate and approve all raw material changes.
  • Lead/support product commercialization projects for assigned product lines. Projects may include support of complete new product opportunities or improvements on existing products.
  • Practice disciplined development process.
  • Act as a qualified trainer in area of expertise and provide training as needed.
  • Identifies internal and external customer requirements
  • Defines materials, structures and converting processes for incremental improvements and next generation type innovations and provides associated bills of materials for cost estimation
  • Provides estimates of cost and time required for projects
  • Writes and executes associated trials in Manufacturing plants and tests this material at customer facilities
  • Defines robust commercial specifications including QC testing necessary to meet customer requirements
  • Identifies laboratory and end use testing required and provides statistical interpretation of results
  • Communicates results effectively via written trial reports and presentations to customers and senior management
  • Provides bills of materials for cost estimation for customer bids.
  • Demonstrates appropriate attitude in all dealings with coworkers, customers, and suppliers.
  • Other Duties as assigned

Qualifications, Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree required, preferably chemical engineering, paper/pulp or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Statistics and statistical process control training.
  • At least 4 - 6 years of previous technical service, process control, quality engineering, product development or other related technical experience. 
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies required such as Six Sigma, Lean, etc.  
  • Experience with FDA requirements and ISO standards.

Work Environment

Work primarily in a climate controlled indoor environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. Hearing protection, safety shoes and vision protection required. 

This role operates in a professional office environment that requires some exposure to a manufacturing environment. Employee is rarely exposed to non-toxic/nuisance smells from chemicals, airborne dust, moving mechanical parts, high noise levels and hot/humid environmental conditions in the manufacturing area during extremely hot summer months.
