General Position Description:

The Shipping and Receiving Clerk is responsible for tracking product inventory in the inventory warehouse system. Creates shipping documents, invoices, types and monitors reports associated with shipping. Receives product, supplies and materials into SAP system. Creates receiver based on incoming product, supplies and materials.

Primary Duties:

  • Enter and remove product from inventory warehouse location system.
  • Utilize SAP to create picking list and bill of ladings for internal, customer and driver shipping use, as well as, receiving product, supplies and materials against purchase orders
  • Responsible for using internet and carrier sheets to work up shipping costs and breaking down appropriately to bill customers in SAP.
  • Responsible for keeping files up to date and organized.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, i.e. Word, Excel, Database, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Participate in physical inventories.
  • May be assigned other duties as time allows.
  • Maintain a customer-focused perspective in all activities initiated to ensure that customer needs are successfully met.
  • Develop professional and process expertise to provide improved assistance to customers.
  • Perform job duties accurately so that other personnel and departments and ultimately customers, receive correct information and/or product.
  • Perform any special duties as assigned by management.
  • Adhere to safety policies and procedures, and all Trinity Packaging-Rocky Mount Division policies and procedures, as included in the employee handbook to ensure safety for self and fellow employees and to ensure behavior is appropriate in the workplace.
  • Maintain a customer-focused perspective in all activities initiated to ensure that customer needs are successfully met.
  • Work effectively with neighboring plant departments in a team environment to develop multi-functional solutions.
  • Maintain good house-keeping practices throughout the areas.
  • May be assigned other duties plant wide as time allows.


The Shipping and Receiving Clerk works under the Assistant Traffic Manager, and is accountable to perform duties in a timely and effective manner. Failure to perform duties appropriately may result in inaccurate inventory and monitoring of use of materials needed for production. Errors may cause down time in production and potential frustration to production departments. This in turn may affect the timeliness of delivering the end product to the customers.

The Shipping & Receiving Clerks achievements will be evaluated according to the following:

Acquire complete knowledge of inventory systems and monitor daily applications of such. Conduct duties in a self-motivated and proactive manner. Initiate continuous improvement and problem solving efforts. 

Problem Resolution: Apply ideas, concepts, knowledge and resources, to develop solutions and approaches to internal and external customer issues and problems in an effective and timely manner.

Productivity and Quality: Execute all duties in the appropriate amount (volume), time, level of detail and degree of accuracy, to meet internal and external customer requirements and needs. 

Relationships: Act in a professional manner, exercising pleasant and courteous mannerisms, treating others with dignity and respect.


  • Good math skills and working knowledge of 10 key calculator.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and multi-tasking skills to communicate and coordinate effectively with internal personnel and external carriers.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and write correspondence, and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers or fellow employees.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions and to deal with problems involving a few variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Work in a manufacturing plant utilizing computers, dollies, hand tools, safety knives and packaging equipment.
  • Utilize resource materials including SAP floor system, and standardized forms/paperwork.
  • Vision capabilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
