The Extrusion Line Operator controls and monitors the film production of his or her designated line(s). Oversees the quality, house-keeping, and safety of the designated extrusion line(s). Maintains clear communication with all Plant Department in an effort to produce quality base film.

Primary Duties:

  • Set and maintain gram weights/film gauge and film dimensions within specified QA guidelines.
  • Fills out appropriate processing conditions paperwork at the beginning of each shift.
  • Verifies current production blend is consistent with the control blend.
  • Monitors film treatment; opacities, surface defects, edge weave, and ensures smooth slitted edges on film rolls.
  • Records and monitors gauge profiles across the entire film web.
  • Ensures film rolls are consistently wound within specific roll hardness/variance tolerances.
  • Accurately fills out appropriate production/downtime paperwork.
  • Promptly prepares clean film samples for additional QA testing procedures during specified time intervals.
  • Monitors and maintains raw material levels such that blenders and ultimately the extruders don't run out of the necessary materials.
  • Performs routine maintenance on extrusion systems for his or her designated lines.
  • Performs roll changes including preparing cores and timing out winder cut-overs.
  • Prepares for and performs line changeovers efficiently while minimizing film scrap and/or raw material waste.
  • May be assigned other duties plant wide as time allows.
  • Work effectively with neighboring plant departments in a team environment to develop multi-functional solutions.
  • Maintain good house-keeping practices throughout the Extrusion department, particularly the operator's designated lines.
  • Perform job duties accurately so that other personnel and departments, and ultimately customers, receive correct information and/or product.
  • Adhere to Trinity Packaging safety policies and production procedures as included in the employee handbook to ensure safety for self and fellow employees and to ensure behavior is appropriate in the workplace.

 

Accountabilities:

The Extrusion Line Operator works under Extrusion Management, and is accountable to perform duties in a timely and effective manner. Failure to perform duties appropriately may result in unsatisfactory film quality and ultimately high scrap rates. Errors may cause downtime in production and potential frustration to production departments. This in turn may affect the timeliness of delivering the end product to the customers. Routine decisions can be made without clearing them through the Supervisor; however, when there is a question about product quality and or substitutions, it must be cleared with a Supervisor.

 

The Extrusion Line Operator's achievements will be evaluated according to the following:

Cost Control: Identify cost reduction opportunities, minimize waste and safeguard company assets.

 

Communication and Teamwork: Clearly articulate needs, ideas, issues in a constructive manner, solve problems, and contribute in a team environment. Assist other team members in completing work, as required.

 

Customer Focus: Maintain a focus on addressing external and internal customer needs and requirements in all activities.

 

Personal Initiative: Demonstrate willingness to be involved in company activities internal and external to own department. Acquire complete knowledge of inventory systems and monitor daily applications of such. Conduct duties in a self-motivated and proactive manner. Initiate continuous improvement and problem solving efforts.

 

Problem Resolution: Apply ideas, concepts, knowledge and resources, to develop solutions and approaches to internal and external customer issues and problems in an effective and timely manner.

 

Productivity and Quality: Execute all duties in the appropriate amount (volume), time, level of detail, and degree of accuracy, to meet internal and external customer requirements and needs.

 

Relationships: Act in a professional manner, exercising pleasant and courteous mannerisms, treating others with dignity and respect, and focusing on conflict minimization and collaborative solutions. Recognize internal co-workers as customers.

 

Requirements:

  • Extrusion and/or factory operator experience preferred.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and multi-tasking skills to communicate and coordinate effectively with internal personnel.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and write correspondence, and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers or fellow employees.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions and to deal with problems involving a few variables in standardized situations.
  • Work in a manufacturing plant utilizing computers, dollies, forklift, hand tools, safety knives, packaging equipment, pallet jacks, and standard safety equipment.
  • Utilize resource materials including production schedule and standardize forms/paperwork.
  • Vision capabilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to work overtime as needed.
