The Press Assistant role is to assist the Press Operator in the overall operation of his or her assigned press; the primary responsibility is to keep the presses running at the highest level of proficiency possible.

Primary Duties:

  • Works directly with the press operators.
  • Assist the press operator in set ups.
  • Assist the press operator with paperwork.
  • Change/hang rolls on the unwind and rewind.
  • Assist the operator to help maintain the print quality by performing quality checks.
  • Maintain proper ink levels.
  • Help assist in preparing for upcoming change overs.
  • Follow all plant safety rules.
  • Keep area around the press tidy.
  • Relive operator for break.
  • Perform any special duties assigned by management.
  • Adhere to safety policies and procedures and all Trinity Packaging-Rocky Mount Division policies and procedures as included in the employee handbook to ensure safety for self and fellow employees and to ensure behavior is appropriate in the workplace.
  • Perform job duties accurately so that other personnel and departments and ultimately customers receive correct information and/or product.
  • Maintain a customer focused perspective in all activities initiated to ensure that customer needs are successfully met.
  • Work effectively with neighboring plant departments in a team environment to develop multi-functional solutions.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices throughout the areas.
  • May be assigned other duties plant wide as time allows.

 

Accountabilities:

The Press Assistant works under direct supervision, and is accountable to perform duties in a timely and effective manner. Failure to perform duties appropriately may result in press downtime.

 

The Press Assistant's achievements will be evaluated according to the following:

 

Safety: Maintain a focus on safety as it relates to personnel and processes.

 

Cost Control: Identify cost reduction opportunities, minimize waste and safeguard company assets.

 

Communication and Teamwork: Clearly articulate needs, ideas, issues in a constructive manner, solve problems, and contribute in a team environment. Assist other team members in completing work, as required.

 

Customer Focus: Maintain a focus on addressing external and internal customer needs and requirements in all activities.

 

Personal Initiative: Demonstrate willingness to be involved in company activities internal and external to their own department. Conduct duties in a self-motivated and proactive manner. Initiate continuous improvement and problem solving efforts.

 

Problem Resolution: Apply ideas, concepts, knowledge and resources, to develop solutions and approaches to internal and external customer issues and problems in an effective and timely manner.

 

Productivity and Quality: Execute all duties in the appropriate amount (volume), time, level of detail, and degree of accuracy, to meet internal and external customer requirements and needs.

 

Relationships: Act in a professional manner, exercising pleasant and courteous mannerisms, treating others with dignity and respect, and focusing on conflict minimization and collaborative solutions. Recognize internal co-workers as customers.

 

Requirements:

  • Excellent communication, organizational and multi-tasking skills to communicate and coordinate effectively with internal personnel.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and write correspondence and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to fellow employees.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions and to deal with problems involving a few variables in standardized situations.
  • Work in a manufacturing plant utilizing computers, dollies, forklift, hand tools, safety knives, packaging equipment, pallet jacks, and standard safety equipment.
  • Utilize resource materials including productions schedule and standardized forms/paperwork.
  • Vision capabilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must have good attendance record.
  • Must be willing and able to follow directions from his or her operator.
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime when required.
