The Project & Design Engineer job function is to ensure the smooth flow of new products and trials through both the Hanover Park and Cary facilities. This position operates under the direction of the Director Chicagoland, Technical & Quality. While the home base for this position is Hanover Park, Illinois, the duties and responsibilities are for both Hanover Park and Cary.

  • Recommends flexible packaging structures per the request of sales and customer service for new and existing business opportunities.
  • Work with Quality Assurance Manager to design trial runs to identify potential quality issues and resulting in a quality plan aimed at preventing non-conformances.
  • Works through the various computer systems to ensure the documentation needed is present for customer service to create customer quotations in a timely manner.
  • Manages the timelines for the various trials keeping tabs on critical milestones and updating management
  • Attending trials on the production floor and making technical decisions during the run
  • Preparing post trial documentation for the innovation and development teams including machine process-ability and quality test data.
  • Keep ProAmapc current with new raw materials and processing technologies.
  • Work with the procurement team on qualifying new and alternate materials.
  • Work with new material suppliers to communicate our requirements and develop raw materials specifications which meet those requirements.
  • Control, maintain and update all required information systems for existing structures including POPs and Technical Data Sheets.
  • Work with the Director Chicagoland, Technical & Quality to determine procedures for and execute product/process validations as necessary.
  • Perform other assignments as required by ProAmpac Management


  • Comply with all ProAmpac Safety, Quality, Operational and Employment policies and practices.
  • Remove from operation any machine deemed unsafe and immediately notify management.
  • Adhere to all Quality principles as outlined in our Quality System to ensure efficient production of a quality product on a day to day basis.
  • Operate in a manner that will reduce waste and optimize usable production.
  • Halt manufacturing processes and immediately notifying management of any safety, material, equipment or technical non-conformance.
  • Participate with co-workers and supervisors in addressing problem areas, planning methods and operating procedures.
  • Identify and record quality related problems, initiate action to prevent nonconformance, and recommend solutions.
  • Control the further processing of materials until any deficiency is corrected.
  • Occasional travel required

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree in engineering, quality or other technical area preferred
  • Strong project management skills preferred
  • Not less than three years of experience in Packaging Processing
  • Knowledge of adhesives, barrier properties/technology of materials, and lamination processes.
