Primary Duties:

 

  • Communication with the Scheduling Department to assure material locating control and to monitor material utilization in manufacturing.
  • Utilize the production schedule to prioritize material requirements and prevent equipment downtime.
  • Daily communication with the Scheduling Department to monitor raw material availability and needs.
  • Transfer raw materials and film from the Extrusion production floor to the designated areas.
  • Deliver raw material to the Extrusion Department.
  • Participate in physical inventories.
  • Dispose or relocate rejected materials after final disposition.
  • Responsible for weighing final film rolls and transferring that data to the Extrusion department.
  • Responsible for weighing all scrap rolls and gaylords, filling out appropriate scrap ticket information, and ultimately relocation to designated areas(s).
  • Perform and fill out daily safety and forklift maintenance checks
  • Perform job duties accurately so that other personnel and departments, and ultimately customers, receive correct information and/or product.
  • Maintain a customer focused perspective in all activities initiated to ensure that customer needs are successfully met.
  • Adhere to all Trinity Packaging safety and production policies and procedures as included in the employee handbook to ensure safety for self and fellow employees and to ensure behavior is appropriate in the workplace.
  • Work effectively with neighboring plant departments in a team environment to develop multi-functional solutions.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices throughout the areas.
  • May be assigned other duties plant wide as time allow.

 

Accountabilities:

The Material Handler works under the Extrusion Manager, and is accountable to perform duties in a timely and effective manner. Failure to perform duties appropriately may result in inaccurate inventory and monitoring of use of materials needed for production. Errors may cause down time in production and potential frustration to production departments. This in turn may affect the timeliness of delivering the end product to the customers. Routine decisions can be made without clearing them through the Supervisor; however, when there is a question about product quality and or substitutions, it must be cleared with a Supervisor.

 

The Material Handler's achievements will be evaluated according to the following:

 

Safety: Maintain a focus on safety as it relates to personnel and processes.

 

Cost Control: Identify cost reduction opportunities, minimize waste and safeguard company assets.

 

Communication and Teamwork: Clearly articulate needs, ideas, issues in a constructive manner, solve problems, and contribute in a team environment. Assist other team members in completing work, as required.

 

Customer Focus:  Maintain a focus on addressing external and internal customer needs and requirements in all activities.

 

Personal Initiative: Demonstrate willingness to be involved in company activities internal and external to their own department. Acquire knowledge of inventory systems and monitor daily applications of such. Conduct duties in a self-motivated and proactive manner. Initiate continuous improvement and problem solving efforts.

 

Problem Resolution: Apply ideas, concepts, knowledge and resources, to develop solutions and approaches to internal and external issues and problems in an effective and timely manner.

 

Productivity and Quality: Execute all duties in the appropriate amount (volume), time, level of detail, and degree of accuracy, to meet internal and external requirements and needs.

 

Relationships: Act in a professional manner, exercising pleasant and courteous mannerisms, treating others with dignity and respect, and focusing on conflict minimization and collaborative solutions. Recognize internal co-workers as customers.

 

Requirements:

  • Warehouse or factory experience preferred
  • Forklift certification required
  • Excellent communication, organizational and multi-tasking skills to communicate and coordinate effectively with internal personnel.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and write correspondence, and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to fellow employees.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions and to deal with problems involving a few variables in standardized situations.
  • Work in a manufacturing plant utilizing computers, dollies, forklift, hand tools, safety knives, packaging equipment, pallet jacks, and standard safety equipment.
  • Utilize resource materials including production schedule and standardized forms/paperwork.
  • Vision capabilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to work overtime as needed.
