Works on a two-person crew that is responsible for running product on a rewinder. Rewinder Operator position provides leadership for crew and ensures machine is running correctly. Works 12-hour rotating shifts; 6a-6p & 6p-6a. Future expectaction is moving to a 24/7 day operation.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Knows and follows all safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that co-workers are also following safety rules.
  • Commitment, awareness and involvement pertaining to ISO (policy, standards, procedures, etc.) and food safety practices (GMPs, procedures, etc.) are requirements of all employees.
  • Makes process decisions relating to quality and performance.
  • Performs expected pounds per hour or feet per minute at machine depending on grade.
  • Handles minor mechanical problems.
  • Reads specifications and schedules to prepare for upcoming jobs.
  • Corrects specifications and customer orders when inaccurate.
  • Adjusts wind up section to correct physical defects.
  • Oversees training to ensure the helper is able to set up and run rewinder for vacation relief and as needed for fill-in.
  • Mounts roll or bolt of material on machine supports and threads material over tension bar, between feed rollers, and under rotary blades.
  • Starts machine and observes flow or material through machine to detect irregular cutting and winding.
  • May occasionally use forklift / roll clamp to transport product.Demonstrates appropriate attitude in all dealings with co workers, customers, and suppliers.
  • Consistently at work and on time.
  • Palletizes rolls; wraps on stretch wrapper to prepare for shipping.
  • Ties bales on trim balers and broke balers.
  • Sets up core cutter and cuts cores.
  • Meets or exceeds target output rate while adhering to all Prolamina Safety and Quality standards.
  • Sets next crew up for success and effectively and efficiently communicates at shift change to Operators and Supervisors.
  • Keeps area clean.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and / or Experience

High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or 6 months to one year related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.


Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American lineal and weight measurement, volume, and distance.


Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Outlook internet software and Shop Floor Manufacturing software.
