General Purpose

Sells and manages the customer relationships for the Company in a fast paced, high stress environment.  The employee handles customers from ProAmpac's business locations and/or their home office, as well as at customer locations of business.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Knows and follows all safety policies and procedures. Ensures that co-workers are also following safety rules.
  • Commitment, awareness and involvement pertaining to ISO (policy, standards, procedures, etc.) and food safety practices (GMPs, procedures, etc.) are requirements of all employees.
  • Regularly travels independently throughout the United States and Canada to call on existing and prospective customers (approximately50 - 75% of the time). During the customer calls, employee develops a relationship with various levels of the customer organization from company presidents to machine operators, investigates new business opportunities, resolves quality issues, and solicits orders.  Travel generally includes evening entertainment and overnight stays.  Between regular site calls, employee interfaces with customers by phone daily (15 to 40 calls per day).
  • Utilizes historical knowledge of Company operations, profitability guidelines and computer quoting model to develop cost/profit analysis of products which is utilized to generate price quotes and credit terms for customers. Increases prices when required due to raw material price increases.
  • Negotiates multi-year contracts with major customers through negotiations on price, service and terms. Maintains contract relationship, increases prices as described by the contract, ensures that ProAmpac meets the requirements of the contract, and negotiates contract extensions at the appropriate time.
  • Prepares monthly and annual budgets and forecasts by customer and enters the information into company software.
  • Identifies prospective customers through various sources (Internet, industry publications, newspapers, trade shows, industry contracts and other sources) and utilizes these for sales leads. Contacts leads, identifies decision makers and develops a relationship that can lead to profitable business.
  • Interfaces with ProAmpac's graphics department to coordinate artwork and plate preparation for customers. Plate changes are required for new product lines or for changed artwork.  Recovers cost of changes from customers.
  • Investigates and resolves quality issues and customer problems. Frequently requires visiting customer site (factory floor) to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Works closely with ProAmpac product development specialists and manufacturing personnel to develop new products for customers. These are based on requests from current or prospective customers for new products or new properties for current products.
  • Types and publishes call reports on all outside customer visits to keep affected ProAmpac personnel up-to-date on current customer issues.
  • Completes inventory analyses and works with customers to manage inventory to ProAmpac target levels.
  • Works closely with customer service representatives to ensure customer orders are processed, correct prices are on orders, and customer's service needs are being met.
  • Prepares reports of business transactions and keeps expense accounts.
  • Becomes an ambassador for ProAmpac with the customer, establishing unique position by differentiating our corporate value to the customer.
  • Demonstrates appropriate attitude in all dealings with coworkers, customers, and suppliers.
  • Other duties as necessary.

Qualification, Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point), Visio, and Outlook email and calendar capabilities.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality and protects privacy of confidential/sensitive information.
  • Exceptional time management and organization skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously establishing priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal, written, and presentations) with executive leadership, staff, and internal and external clients.
  • Proactive; exercises sound judgment and decision making; able to identify problems and needs, and develop solutions and/or options.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Self-confident, self-motivated polished professional who thrives in a challenging, fast-paced environment.
